Name: Box Making – Two Compartment Box
Instructor: Matt Kenney
Skill Level: Upper beginner to Intermediate
Prerequisites: None

Age: You must be at least 18 years old to participate

Format: Online Workshop

Class Description:

Boxes do not need to be hard to make, incorporate multiple species of wood, or have ornate details to be beautiful. In this online workshop, you’ll learn Matt Kenney’s approach to making attractive boxes: make it simple, make it subtle. We will talk a little about everything from wood selection to finishing. Matt will demonstrate how to resaw and how to create grain that wraps continuously around all four of the corners. He will show us how to cut accurate miter joints, and how to glue up the box so that those joints stay tight. As well, you will learn how he finishes his boxes, including his techniques for making a fabric liner, applying shellac, and using milk paint. Finally, we’ll go through the process of making elegant pulls to complete our boxes.

With the help of this online workshop you will be able to complete a two compartment box designed by Matt Kenney in the comfort of your own shop. As part of this course, you will receive a set of detailed plans, a material list and a cut list. The class will be made up of two sessions – The Main Demonstration and the Q&A. The main demonstration will be live online and will show you how to make the box. The session will be recorded so you can refer back to it when you work on your box in you own shop. You will have about two weeks to work on the box before the follow up session. You may have questions along the way so we will host a short Q&A to address them. Questions will need to be submitted ahead of time via a form that will be emailed to you.
