Class Description:
Learn the basics of furniture making while building your own simple walnut stool with a Danish cord seat. This hands-on project is a great introduction to constructing 3D pieces, and learn how different materials can complement each other. In this class, we’ll work through cutting joinery, tapering legs, surface preparation, finishing before learning a traditional Danish cord woven seat.
Danish cord became popular in mid-century Danish furniture, where it was used as a durable and comfortable alternative to traditional woven seating materials. It became especially well known through Scandinavian furniture makers and remains popular today for its combination of strength, comfort, and clean, simple appearance. If you’re a fan of mid-century modern designers such as Hans Wegner or Neils Otto Moller, you’ll understand the timeless appeal of Danish Cord.
All materials and material costs are included and will be ready for you when you arrive. Students will leave class with their own handmade stool and a new set of fundamental furniture-making skills.
