Class Description:
Do you have some hand tool work you need to get done? Have a glue up you don’t quite have enough clamps for? Join us at the Austin School of Furniture for Open Bench Day—a casual, self-paced hang where woodworkers of all levels can work on their own projects.
Free and open to the public. Whether you’re a student, alum, or just love working with wood, come grab a bench. The machine room will be off limits, but we’ll be hanging out with hand tools in the bench room. An instructor will be around, but this is your time to work independently and connect with other makers.
Bring your own projects and tools. You can borrow from the school’s hand tool collection, but supplies are limited—if there’s something specific you need, email us at contact@austinschooloffurniture.com.
Registration required. Spots are limited so we can make sure everyone has a bench to work at. If you have questions or concerns if your project is right for this meetup feel free to reach out. If you can’t make this one, don’t worry. We’re hoping to offer this monthly on the second Sundays, guest instructor classes permitting.
This is a free meetup and you can come and go as you please, but please be respectful of the limited space and let us know if you cannot make it. Shoot us an email with a short description of what you’ll be working on so we can better support you and your goals.
What to bring:
- Your own project- we will not be supplying anything to work on. We always have small scraps up for grabs but there is no access to the machines.
- Tools that you have and will need, or reach out to let us know if you need to borrow anything. We cannot guarantee any tools will be available for use unless you reach out beforehand.
- Water and snack if desired
- Please wear closed toed shoes
