The 2nd class in our comprehensive series, Furniture Making 1 begins to apply the core principles taught in Fundamentals of Woodworking. Students will craft their own hall table while learning about design, plans and schematics, furniture templates, selecting wood, milling, joinery, shaping, sanding, finishing and more.

Class Description:

The 2nd class in our comprehensive series, Furniture Making 1 begins to apply the fundamental concepts taught in Fundamentals of Woodworking to creating beautiful furniture. This table is designed by Philip Morley and includes thin tapered, angled and curved legs. A shadow groove runs around the top as subtle detail to make this piece of furniture elegant yet contemporary. Students will get the chance to use both machines and hand tools in this project. This table is roughly 15″ deep, 36″ wide, and 32″ tall.

 

Students will work through the full process of building a sleek hall table:

  • Design considerations
  • Understanding plans and schematics
  • Creating templates
  • Wood / part selection
  • Roughing-out and milling
  • Angled Joinery
  • Shaping and aesthetic components
  • Edge Profiles
  • Sanding
  • Finishing (if time allows)

 

Schedule:

Every Wednesday Evening (10 weeks)

  • September 21st to November 30th. We will be skipping October 5th.

What to bring:

The tools for this class are recommended. This means that we have everything you will need if you don’t own your own tools. You can bring your own, borrow them or buy them from us.
