Class Description:

The Morley Lounge Chair course is an amazing experience packed full of education and fun. Built for all skill levels, this class will walk you through the process step by step to create your very own sleek, mid-century modern inspired lounge chair designed by Philip Morley. Not only will you learn a ton about furniture making but you will walk away with a piece of furniture that is guaranteed to be a focal feature of your home.

Your instructor, Philip Morley, will teach you all about this lounge chair while sharing his decades of furniture making experience.

The school will be providing cherry as the primary lumber for this chair. Lunch will be provided each day.

Topics and skills covered will include:

• Tool safety
• Accurate layout
• Marking and measuring
• Using templates and pattern routing
• Bridle joints
• Mortise and tenon joinery
• Hand tools and machines
• Advanced tool usage like coping on the table saw
• Creating panels
• Decorative veneering
• Edge treatments

What you’ll need:

Required

• Tape Measure (9’ to 16’)
• Combination Square (6’’ or 12’’)
• Steel Ruler (6”)
• Durablock – Flat and cylinder
• Digital Calipers
• Marking Knife
• Pencils

Optional (If you don’t bring your own you will have to share the school’s limited quantity)

• Spokeshave (Flat Bottom)
• #4 Smoothing Plane
• Block plane (Low Angle)
• Rasp (9”)
