Class Description:
This chair makes a great introduction to the challenges of chair making. To make the Slat-Back Chair we cut and smooth curves in solid wood, laminate the curves on the slats, learn to deal with the complexities of angles in chairs, deal with sophisticated joinery, and more. And it all comes together in a striking and comfortable design that fits in well with many styles. The skills learned in this class can be applied to countless design variations, opening up an entire world of chair making possibilities.

What you’ll need:
Required
- Paper and pencil
- Eye, ear, and dust mask personal protection equipment
- 6” or 12” steel ruler – Graduated to 32nds
- Tape measure – 9′-12’ is great
- Combination square – 4” or 6”
- #4 or #5 Bench plane – sharpened and ready to go
- We have a few you may borrow if you do not have one
- Router Plane
- We have a few you may borrow if you do not have one
- Shoulder Plane
- We have a few you may borrow if you do not have one
Recommended (If you don’t bring your own you will have to share the school’s limited quantity)
- Block plane
- Marking knife
- Bevel gauge
- Marking gauge
- Spokeshave – flat bottomed or curved
- Card Scraper
- Chisels – a set of 4 or 5 from 1/4” to 3/4” or 1”.
- Mallet
