Wayne Delyea grew up in the Mountains of Northern Arizona and developed a
love of Art and Woodworking at an early age. He sold his first oil painting at the
County Fair at the young age of 14 and that same year he took his first formal
training in a Woodworking Shop class at the High School. His academic training
was in Business Management at Mesa Community College and The University of
Phoenix.
Wayne currently is a full-time furniture maker and owns and operates “Wayne
Delyea Furniture Maker” a custom handmade furniture business near Granbury
Texas. He specializes in Cabinets, Desks, Tables, Chairs and Rocking Chairs
frequently featuring a Marquetry or Inlay embellishment.
His passion for woodworking and art drove for him what he felt was the perfect
combination of furniture and marquetry. He took many classes over the years
with Texas Master Woodworker Frank Strazza to hone is hand tool, inlay and
joinery skills. He also studied Marquetry with the Master Marquetry Furniture
maker Paul Schurch during 2 week long intermediate and advanced Marquetry
and Veneer courses. Wayne is a member of the American Marquetry Society who
has featured his work in several of their publications and a member of the Kansas
City Woodworkers Guild.
In 2013 Wayne received an Honorable Mention Award at the Texas Furniture
Makers Show a Texas statewide Juried competition for his Maloof style Rocking
Chair. In 2016 he won the coveted 2016 Master Woodworking Artist of the Year
Award a Nationwide juried exhibit sponsored by the National Endowment for the
Arts, the Oklahoma Arts Council, The Oklahoma Department of Forestry and the
State of Oklahoma. In 2017 he won “The People’s Choice Award” at the Texas
Furniture Makers Show, In 2018 he won Second Place at the “Master
Woodworking Artist of the Year Award” and also in 2018 at the Texas Furniture
Makers Show he again won “The People’s Choice Award” and in addition won a
second award “The Judges Special Award”.
