What are Coummunity Classes?

Community classes are short classes taught some evenings and weekends here at the Austin School of Furniture. They are taught by volunteer instructors that have a background in woodworking and furniture making and a passion for sharing the craft.  The emphasis is on basic woodworking skills and small, easy projects of things you can use around the house.  

Class Details

Beginner Friendly

All classes are beginner friendly with an emphasis on basic skills. You will learn and get comfortable with both hand tools and small power tools in a safe and inclusive environment.

Small Class Size

These classes are kept small in size and inexpensive in cost so to give everyone a chance and learning some basic making skills with wood.

Short Duration

Classes are kept short so as to not take up too much of your time. You can learn a lot in one evening or you can keep coming back and learn in small digestible chunks.

Accessible

Community Classes have a flexible or reduced cost to help make these courses inexpensive and accessible for all. As well, they use a limited number of tools and machines.

Dave Cutherell

Community Director

Dave has been on the school’s board since its inception. He has been in the pursuit of becoming a craftsman for a lifetime. He has taken on the roll of Community Director at the school to help promote and staff community classes.
