Class Description:
This hands-on class is a perfect introduction to woodworking for beginners. You’ll learn foundational woodworking techniques while creating a classic rite-of-passage project: a beautiful, handcrafted cutting board. During this one-day workshop, each student will build an edge-grain cutting board from cherry, walnut and maple hardwoods featuring rounded corners and finger grips for easy handling. The finished board will measure 1 1⁄4” thick x 10” wide x 16” long – an ideal size for everyday kitchen use. These cutting boards make thoughtful, long-lasting gifts that are sure to impress any home chef or kitchen enthusiast.
In this class, you’ll learn how to:
- Mill rough lumber using a jointer, planer and table saw to create flat, square parts
 - Glue up a panel from multiple hardwood pieces
 - Flatten, smooth and trim your panel to final dimensions
 - Use a router to add finger grips, round corners, and bevel edges
 - Properly sand and prepare your board for finishing
 - Apply a food-safe finish that protects the wood and enhances its natural beauty
