Class Description:

This course introduces the basic techniques of hand drafting used in architectural and design practice. It is open to students of all backgrounds and is especially recommended for those with no prior drafting experience.

Each session includes a brief lecture and demonstration, followed by self-directed practice through short assignments. Students will learn how to use standard drafting tools, develop consistent linework, apply lettering and notation systems, and draw to scale. Exercises will build toward architectural conventions such as floor plans, elevations, sections, detail drawings, and introductory perspective.

The course emphasizes drawing as both a representational and conceptual tool. Students will learn how drafting shapes the way spatial ideas are formed, communicated, and understood.

Mark will introduce concepts and drafting exercises during class, but to get experience and grow your skillset it is recommended you practice at home throughout the week.
