4 Days – Thursday, February 12th 2026 to Sunday, February 15th 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Class Description:
In this workshop, students will learn several introductory basketry techniques and explore the possibilities of sculptural forms and experimental play. The workshop will include instruction on paired twining, random weave, and 3-rod waling using reed, and will provide the time and space to deploy these processes to create expressive forms. Other materials and surface finishing techniques will be introduced. Students should plan to interact, play, learn, create and experiment together. Open to all skill levels, no experience necessary.
Materials for this class are included in the cost, but feel free to bring anything anything that inspires you and you want to incorporate into your work, such as wire, cords, fabric strips, yarn, or found objects.
What you’ll need:
If you have these tools bring them along, or share with the school’s limited quantities.
Required
- Snips- either diagonal cutters, basketry snips, or good scissors
- Needlenose pliers
- 5 gallon bucket
- Measuring tape
- Towel
Optional
- Small Weave Rite Packing Tool
- Small Awl (any type)
If you have done some basket weaving, and have some tools you think would be useful, feel free to bring them. It does not hurt to bring more than you need.
