What are Community Classes?
Community Classes are focused on growing the woodworking community, teaching basic woodworking skills and increasing access to tools and wood. These classes are run by skilled volunteers and build one small project completed in only a few hours. The class sizes are kept small and the number of tools used is limited. Each person attending the class must sign up individually regardless of payment amount.

Class Description:
Everyone needs a beautiful arched plant stand to display their potted plants. Even better is a grouping of three multi-height stands to showcase an arrangement of three plants. These simple, yet attractive stands are 10.5 inches wide with heights of 7″, 11″, and 15″. They are built out of specialized water resistant MDF (Armorite) and can be utilized indoors or outdoors. The stands are designed to hold and 8″ plastic pot saucer (included with the class) to minimize any excess liquid that might escape from plant watering. This fun, short class will teach you some great woodworking skills while laying out and constructing this sturdy trio of arched stands. Come join fellow plant lovers and woodworking enthusiasts for a great experience.
During the class you will learn the following woodworking techniques:
- How to use a template and marking tools to layout the parts.
- How to use a forstner drill bit to cut tight curves.
- How to use a bandsaw to cut larger curves.
- How to layout and cut a saddle joint using a bandsaw and chisels.
- How to sand curves evenly for a smooth finish and consistent appearance.
- Discuss options to finish this paint grade project at home to create a trio that harmonizes with your style and decor.
What to bring:
If you have any of these tools please bring them but we have plenty that you can borrow as well.
- A desire to learn some new skills in a fun, safe and supportive environment.
- A positive attitude to share in a community of craftsmanship.
- Drink and a snack (if desired)
- Measuring tape, pencil and eye protection
- Optionally you may choose to bring the following if you have these: speed or combination square, hearing protection, dust protection, and any other tools that you think might be helpful.
- All other materials (pine wood, screws, sandpaper, etc.) and tools are provided by the school.
