What are Community Classes?
Community Classes are focused on growing the woodworking community, teaching basic woodworking skills and increasing access to tools and wood. These classes are run by skilled volunteers and build one small project completed in only a few hours. The class sizes are kept small and the number of tools used is limited. Each person attending the class must sign up individually regardless of payment amount.

Class Description:
Everyone needs a beautiful mid-century modern plant stand for their indoor plants. This simple, clean design with a round cherry top supported by three angular shaped and tapered maple legs provides a nice wood color contrast. The stands are 24 inches tall with a 12 inch round top. The stands are designed to hold up to a 10 inch plastic pot saucer (included with the class) to minimize any exceess liquid that might escape from plant watering. This fun, one day class will teach you some great woodworking skills while laying out and constructing this sturdy and beautiful plant stand. Come join fellow plant lovers and woodworking enthusiasts for a great experience.
During the class you will learn the following woodworking techniques:
- How to use a router to mark a round table top.
- How to layout the joinery on both round and rectangular parts.
- How to use table saw and sled to cut dados in the top and legs.
- How to taper and shape the legs.
- How to properly sand the parts for finishing.
- How to join the parts using screws and wood plugs.Discuss various finishing options that harmonize with your style and décor.
What to bring:
If you have any of these tools please bring them but we have plenty that you can borrow as well.
- A desire to learn some new skills in a fun, safe and supportive environment.
- A positive attitude to share in a community of craftsmanship.
- Drink and a snack (if desired)
- Measuring tape, pencil and eye protection
- Optionally you may choose to bring the following if you have these: speed or combination square, hearing protection, dust protection, and any other tools that you think might be helpful.
- All other materials and tools are provided by the school.
