Class Description:

In this two-day course, students will learn the process of cutting a Ming Chinese table joint using common woodworking machinery and a simple shop-made jig. This variation of a bridle joint incorporates mitered spandrels that are housed into the legs, providing additional bearing surface when assembled without glue or creating an exceptionally strong glued joint. Students will leave with a completed, disassemblable sample joint and a clear understanding of the order of operations, enabling them to incorporate this joint into future projects.

Machines used are limited to those commonly found in home and garage shops, making the class accessible to woodworkers who may have previously been intimidated by the hand-tool skills often associated with traditional Ming-style joinery. Equipment used during the course includes the table saw and router table.

We have everything you need at the school for the class. If you have these tools at home, feel free to bring them.
