Class Description:

A fun project class that teaches the basics of furniture making through the construction of a simple stool with a woven seat. This stool is a great first project, holiday gift or addition to any room in your home. This class will cover essential skills used in woodworking and furniture construction as well as introduce shaker tape and several different patterns of weaving. Working with ash, we’ll cover the basics of the milling process as you break down lumber for your own stool. From there we’ll taper legs and cut mortise and tenons. We’ll work through glueing up 3D objects and finish sanding, as well as get a coat of finish on before weaving. We’ll have two options for shaker tape, either olive green or light blue. Materials and material cost is included and will be ready and waiting for each student. Students will walk away with their very own stool.

Select which color you would like at the time of purchase. Colors may vary slightly from images.

What you will learn:

Safety, tool knowledge, woodworking machines and hand tools, milling process, joinery, tapering, sanding, finishing, using auxiliary materials, weaving techniques

Next month in April, we’ll be hosting a four day Seat Weaving Intensive with David Johnson.  Shaker tape will not be covered in that course, and neither will stool building. If you’re interested in learning the basic construction to how stools and ultimately chairs are made, this is an excellent class to start with.
