Class Description:

Danish Cord is a paper cord product traditonally used by Danish furniture designer. It has recently made a come back in modern, creative applications. It is a beautiful and easy way to create a unique seat for furniture.
We will demystify how to build a stool specifically for cord and unravel the weaving process. Under the guidance of the amazing David Johnson, we will construct a simple stool based on a Hans Wegner dining chair with mortise & tenon joinery, and a Danish cord seat.  Starting from rough stock we will go through the processes of squaring it, creating the joinery, shaping, glue ups, and finishing. Then, we will move on to weave the Danish Cord seat.
James Krenov once said he used machines to save his energy for the hand tool work later in the project and that is how we’ll be working as well. We will limit the power tools to the bandsaw, jointer, plunge router, and chop saw so the techniques learned in class can be repeated in most home workshops.
