Class Description:
This 6 day course will introduce students to the fundamental materials and techniques for adding decorative veneer work to their woodworking. Using a lidded jewelry box with a veneered waterfall design as a learning vehicle, students will prepare, cut, tape and press various decorative veneer layouts. Additional time will be spent on working with veneer on curved components, and string inlay. Students will leave with the knowledge and confidence to add veneering into their larger scale furniture projects.
The project will look slightly different than the photos provided on this page.

- Cutting and taping
- 4 way matches
- Radial matches
- Waterfall edges
- Vacuum bag techniques

What you’ll need:
Required
- Safety glasses, ear protection and dust mask
- Tape measure or folding rule
- Pencil (preferably mechanical pencils with lead, or 2mm lead holder)
- Notepad or paper
- Combination Square – 4” and a 12” is a good duo
- Snap-off type retractable knife — Olfa is a good brand, readily available
- Veneer saw — Two Cherries makes a decent one, Gramercy makes a better one
Optional (If you don’t bring your own you will have to share the school’s limited quantity)
- Chisels (1⁄4″, 1⁄2″, and 1” are useful sizes)
- Block Plane – #4, or #5, bench plane
- Card scraper
- Cutting gauge or marking gauge
If you have done some woodworking, and have some tools you think would be useful, feel free to bring them. It does not hurt to bring more than you need.
